Missouri welcomes back Kim Anderson
The University of Missouri held a news conference to introduce new Men’s Basketball Coach Kim Anderson.
The MU Board of Curators made the announcement on Anderson’s hire Monday.
Anderson started by thanking his family at the University of Central Missouri, stating, “I am Missouri through and through.”
Anderson addressed critics by acknowledging his age, “all of these things I’ve learned in the past 24 hours…apparently I’m old.”
He also spoke of recruiting abilities and how experience has prepared him for the coaching job at Mizzou.
“We’re going to recruit one of the best coaching staffs possible. This is going to be rooted in our student athletes.”
Anderson said working at UCM has prepared him for the job, stating, “this is a dream.”
When asked about the impact of mentor and former Coach Norm Stewart on his career, Anderson said, “He taught me so many things, not just basketball. He taught me how to survive.”
Anderson said the timing was finally right for him to come to Mizzou.
“I wouldn’t have hired me in 1999. There were still a lot of things I needed to learn. Being an alum of the college that you’re coaching says a lot about the quality of education at Mizzou.”
Anderson said he will bring an aggressive style of coaching to his players at Missouri.
“I really want to play aggressive, hard-nosed, energized-style basketball. I try to have my teams play the way I played.”
