Pot policy main topic at cannabis conference
The push for policy changes in regards to marijuana in MIssouri continued this weekend on the University of Missouri’s campus.
The Spring Cannabis Conference was held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Allen Auditorium.
The keynote speaker was Mason Tvert, the co-chair behind Colorado’s campaign for marijuana legalization.
Tvert told ABC 17 News that Missouri stood poised to be on the forefront of pot policy change.
“There’s always been a strong movement to change marijuana laws in Columbia and around Missouri,” Tvert said. “I think this is a state where we could see some significant changes coming up.”
Tvert heads the Marijuana Policy Project, which is credited for the November 2012 ballot push to legalize adult marijuana use and sale in the Centennial State. Commercial sale of marijuana started in that state on January 1.
Other speakers included marijuana activists, a Springfield, Mo. physician, and a veteran St. Louis police sergeant.
The conference was hosted by the MU chapters of the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP). Show-Me Cannabis Regulation was a co-sponsor.
