Diocese buys land for possible church, school

The Diocese of Jefferson City announced Friday the purchase of 29 acres of land in southeast Columbia west of Fr. Tolton High School.

The Diocese has not made a final decision on what the land will be used for, but in October 2013, an assessment was completed to determine support for a new parish and grade school within the Catholic community.

In a news release, Diocese Director Brad Copeland said the size of the property is big enough for any future development the diocese chooses.

After reviewing information gathered at several meetings with the Columbia Catholic community, Bishop John Gaydos will make a final decision.
