Vandalism suspect caught on surveillance cameras at Broadway Brewery

A streak of vandalism against downtown Columbia businesses has owners and employees frustrated.

The most recent incident happened at Broadway Brewery early Sunday morning. Police released surveillance video that the owners said shows a man breaking through a window and going through the business shirtless with a mop handle banging it on the floor and tables.

Employees said the man didn’t take anything from the business, but did cost them money to get their window fixed.

“I just hope this guy gets caught,” said Jared Zillig, manager at Broadway Brewery. “It’s sad to see someone is running around doing this to businesses.”

And Broadway Brewery isn’t the only business that has been hit within the last week.

Eight days ago, ABC 17 News reported a window was shattered with a rock at Coffee Zone on Ninth Street. Issam Yanis, owner of Coffee Zone, told ABC 17 News Monday another rock was thrown through his window Saturday night.

Yanis said he has had enough. He said he called a company to install surveillance cameras outside his business.

“It’s pretty frustrating, but if they’re not going to take care of it, we’ll take care of it ourselves,” Yanis said.

Yanis said he plans to post pictures of the man in the surveillance video at Broadway Brewery in his coffee shop. He said even if the Broadway Brewery incident isn’t related to Coffee Zone, he still wants the guy caught.

Lakota Coffee was also hit within the last week. Someone threw red paint on the awning outside the business.

Iron Tiger Tattoo employees said they had their window shattered almost a month ago.

Police said they are still investigating the incidents. At this time, it’s not clear whether the vandalism incidents are related.

If anyone can identify the man in the video or has any information about the incident, they are urged to call police. Tips can be reported anonymously by calling 875-TIPS.
