Road worker hit in Moniteau County

The Missouri Highway Patrol confirms a road worker was hit by a car in Moniteau County Tuesday morning. The victim was a flag person, 47-year-old Donna Calvin, who worked for a contractor instead of MoDot.

According to the highway patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 50 just east of Tipton, around 8 a.m.

19-year-old Travis Volkart was stopped in his Chevy truck in traffic in a construction area. Volkart’s truck was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Malibu, sending the truck into the construction site where it hit Calvin.

People at the scene report two people were taken to the hospital. Calvin was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in an ambulance with serious injuries. Volkart was taken by ambulance to Capital Region Hospital with moderate injuries.
