Highway 63 work adding to congestion near Columbia

Highway 63 bridge work near Columbia has created some traffic congestion for alternative routes. Most of the traffic issues are on Providence, Grindstone and Stadium.

Chuck Sullivan with the Missouri Department of Transportation said, “We’re kind of working the contractors schedules with what we do. That’s why you’re seeing a lot of work happening right now. It’s just that this is the time of year the contractors have chosen to work.”

The city has closed the Scott Boulevard bridge for the summer.

Sullivan said, “That traffic has to be re-routed as well.”

MoDOT has installed a camera above Highway 63 on the Broadway bridge that changes views every fifteen seconds.

They said this is allowing them to see where the most traffic congestion is.

MoDOT asks motorists to be gracious to their fellow drivers and allow them in at the merge.

The bridge work will be completed in 20 days.

Sullivan said, “If anyone see’s any problems with the way things are set up now to give us a call here at the office.”
