Tax deadline looms midnight Tuesday

One day remains for people to file their taxes for the year 2013. Tax experts say those people rushing around to finish filing their taxes are likely to make mistakes, which could cost them more money.

According to U.S. News and World Report, “Around 10 million tax payers will file an extension.”

Jackson Hewitt Tax Service employee, Jackie Powell, said, “A lot of people will put things down on their tax returns that shouldn’t be on their tax return. It should be in another spot and then it brings up a red flag to the IRS.”

Powell said, “Filing taxes late is automatically a one hundred dollar fine, on top of the taxes still owed.”

She said for those people who don’t understand the tax system, to take it to a professional.
