MU football star DGB kicked off team
The University of Missouri confirmed on Friday Dorial Green-Beckham has been kicked off the football team. The move came from Head Coach Gary Pinkel, along with MU Athletic Director Mike Alden.
“This decision was made with the best interests of all involved in mind,” said Pinkel. “Dorial’s priority going forward needs to be focusing on getting the help he needs. As we have all along, we will continue to do everything we can to assist Dorial and his family. We care deeply about Dorial and his well-being, but hopefully he can benefit from a fresh start,” he said.
“We have a high standard of conduct for our student-athletes,” said Alden. “Though we provide the resources and mentoring to all of our student-athletes, we are also responsible to the community at large and to the ideals and values of the University of Missouri. We have determined that this was a necessary step for our football team, athletic department, the University and our community,” he said.
Many of the students and alumni at MU believe the university made the right decision.
“I definitely think they made the right decision. Sure he was a staple on the football team but if you have one guy that gets away with everything it puts the program down,” D.J. LaPointe, an MU student said.
Another student, Katie Finnegan, agreed.
“Mizzou did what they needed to do. I think it’s hard for athletes because they get away with a lot of things they shouldn’t,” Finnegan said.
And MU alumn Donald LaPointe was proud of the decision of the university.
“I think they have to keep to the best standards so to do that they had to let him go,” LaPointe said. “Everyone goes through difficult times but this is something we can’t overlook.”
On Thursday the Columbia Police Department will not arrest the Missouri wide receiver after another incident Sunday.
According to a police report, the Missouri star allegedly pushed a female down the steps at Brookside Townhomes. The report also shows a text message correspondence in which Green-Beckham’s girlfriend asked the female victim to not press charges against her boyfriend.
On Monday MU announced DGB was indefinitely suspended from the team.
