A look back at Dorial Green-Beckham’s MU career

It took four years to get the nation’s top prospect to commit to the Tigers.

It took even less time for Dorial Green-Beckham to find his way off the Missouri football team.

Friday was the end of the Dorial Green-Beckham era at Mizzou. Gary Pinkel dismissed the biggest star on Missouri’s campus after three off-field incidents in his two years in Columbia.

Green-Beckham ascended up the national recruiting rankings, becoming the top prospect in the 2012 recruiting class at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Mo.

Missouri spent years recruiting the nation’s number one recruit. Gary Pinkel even flew in via helicopter to greet the star athlete. The persistance paid off, as Green-Beckham committed to Missouri on signing day in 2012.

The expectations were obviously high when he got to Columbia. He went an entire month until he caught his first touchdown pass in late September 2012. He had his first multi-touchdown game against Tennessee, catching two touchdowns in the overtime victory. DGB ended the season with 395 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.

But the 2012 season was not without incident. Green-Beckham was caught with marijuana, along with two teammates, in the parking lot outside Memorial Stadium that October. He pleaded guilty to a trespassing charge.

The 2013 year was a breakout season for the wideout, as he had 883 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He had five touchdowns in the win over Kentucky, a single-game school record.

The weekend after the Cotton Bowl, Green-Beckham and two other friends were arrested during a traffic stop. Officers say they found approximately a pound of marijuana. But there has been no evidence linking the marijuana to Green-Beckham.

His latest, and most serious, run in was centered around an incident south of Columbia Sunday night. According to the police report, the star forced his way into an apartment while looking for his girlfriend. The report says Green-Beckham went down the steps and shoved a female down four steps.

The female victim did not press charges against the Missouri wide receiver for fear of “media and community backlash.”

Green-Beckham was expected to be Missouri’s top play-maker in 2014 and one of the top prospects in the 2015 NFL draft.
