More drug arrests in Jefferson City
Jefferson City police arrested 15 people in the last week for drug or firearm possession, and described nine as heroin-related.
The Jefferson City Police and MUSTANG Drug Task Force continued drug investigations and arrested a suspected supplier in recent heroin overdoses.
“These things take time to develop,” said Capt. Doug Shoemaker. “Obviously, when we find information about one dealer, that can lead to information about another dealer and so on and so forth.”
According to a news release Wednesday, Wayne Bush was charged with heroin distribution. He was being held in the Cole County Jail on $250,000 bond.
Several searches were conducted in areas well-known for drug activity including America’s Best Value Innon Jefferson Street. Two people died of heroin overdoses at that motel in February.
“We’re not saying that we’ve eliminated this problem by any stretch of the imagination, I don’t think that’s a realistic approach,” Shoemaker said. “Our job is to be very proactive and make sure that we not only try and arrest those that have heroin and other narcotics in their possession, but that we trace it back to the dealers and get this moved out of our community altogether.”
The searches resulted in arrests for possession and distribution of controlled substances and child endangerment afterfinding heroin, marijuana, controlled prescription drugs, and a firearm in a home.
Six of those arrested in the last week were identified as known heroin dealers.
Tyrone Carr, of Chicago, was on parole for felony drug charges and was charged with distribution of heroin.
Wayne Bush, of Jefferson City, was on parole for felony drug and weapons charges, and was charged with distribution ofheroin.
Jefferson City residents Robert Jones, Richard Turner Jr., and Tony Brooks were also arrested for distribution of heroin.
Jeramie Onarheim, of Jefferson City, was on parole for felony drug charges and was arrested for possession of heroin.
“We want to try to get them all together as much as possible to have the most impact instead of trying to take out one dealer at a time,” said Shoemaker.
Sources told ABC 17 News on Wednesday more drug busts were expected in the next few weeks.
