Missouri basketball assistant leaves for Marquette

Missouri men’s basketball assistant Mark Phelps is leaving for Marquette, the program confirmed Tuesday. Phelps spent one year on Frank Haith’s staff.

The former Drake head coach will join Steve Wojciechowski’s staff. Wojciechowski, a former Duke assistant, was hired as Marquette’s new men’s basketball coach after Buzz Williams left for Virginia Tech.

Phelps is the second coach in Frank Haith’s Missouri tenure to end up at Marquette. Isaac Chew, who spent one year on Frank Haith’s staff, left Columbia for the Illinois Fighting Illini. After two months in Champaign, Chew joined Williams’ staff at Marquette in 2012.

As head coach at Drake, Phelps was 77-86. He also spent time at Arizona State and North Carolina State.
