Lockdown on CMU campus lifted

Reports of an armed man on the Central Methodist University campus in Fayette put the area on lockdown Thursday night.

At around 11 p.m., someone called to report seeing a man in a hooded sweatshirt with a gun walking along Lucky Street west of the campus. Other students reported seeing the same person.

School officials and campus security put the campus on lockdown as officers searched the school’s buildings. No suspect was found, and the all-clear was given shortly after 1 a.m. Friday.

School security got help in the search from Fayette police, Glasgow police, New Franklin police, the Howard County Sheriff’s department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A CMU spokesperson told ABC 17 News the initial phone call appears to have come from a disposable and untraceable phone.
