Severe weather leaving its mark on Mid-Missouri
An afternoon of heavy rains, tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms has left its mark on Mid-Missouri.
Multiple roads in Boone County and Cole County were still closed Thursday night due to flooding. More than three inches of rain has fallen since midnight in some parts of Mid-Missouri.
The washed out roads were causing delays in bus service for Columbia Public Schools.
Heavy rains over two days had closed two businesses in a shopping center in Jefferson City due to roof leaks.
Golf ball-sized hail hit Moberly and parts of Randolph County about 3:30 Thursday afternoon. Officials there were not reporting any major damage.
The closures in Boone County include Driskel Road between Route E and Moreau Road, and Wilcox Road at Oneal Road. A complete list can be found here.
Around 5:30 a.m. Thursday Columbia firefighters were called out to Blackfoot Road for a water rescue. When they arrived two people were on the roof of their car and water was up to the door handles.
Two rescuers were put in the water and were able to safely help the stranded motorists.
Thirteen routes are closed in Cole County tonight. Those include: Waterford, Meadows Ford, Murphy Ford, Campbell, Payne, North Branch, Engineers, Bainer, Loesch, Buffalo, East Lohman, Zion and Settlen roads.
In Pettis County, at least three separate washouts have been reported on Route T north of Dresden. At least one person has been injured related to these washouts.
