Gary Pinkel host chat with Tiger fans

On Wednesday, Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel hosted an online chat talking with Tiger fans.

Athletic Director Mike Alden joined coach Pinkel in the discussion on Missouri football and MU athletic teams.

A question asked of Coach Pinkel was how recruiting has changed with the transition to the Southeastern Conference.

“It was going to be a transition and we know it would be. Actually it happened three to four years ago. The state of Missouri is the most important for us. We need to decide where the top players are from in SEC land,” answered Coach Pinkel.

One aspect Athletic Director Mike Alden addressed was the facilities and improvements on campus to help recruitment.

“It’s exciting where we are going in to the SEC. We had to invest, one being facilities. It’s changing the skyline of Columbia,” Alden said about construction on the east side of Memorial Stadium.

“We have to continue to invest for all our sports. Football is an example. We have to continue to the next phase, new indoor facility, the Missouri Athletic Training Center,it’s a constant process to improve the facilities,” Alden said.

In weeks to come the athletic department will be asking fans for their help in naming the construction at Memorial Stadium.

One fan asked AD Alden about the success of other sports.

In wrestling, true Freshman J’den Cox won the 197lb weight class in the 2014 NCAA Championships becoming the youngest national champion in program history.

The MU volleyball team won the SEC Championship, softball is ranked in the top 15 in the country, and swimming and diving placed 16th in the NCAA tournament.

Mike Alden said the school continues to ask the University of Kansas to play them again in football. Mizzou wants to continue to look forward in the SEC but open to playing the Jayhawks again.
