Boonville could annex land near Highway 87
Boonville officials say if the city is able to develop infrastructure on highway 87, there would be a great potential for growth.
City planner, Megan McGuire, said, “The annexation of the two hundred and forty acres near and including parts of Hail Ridge Golf Course will provide a chance for sales tax, property tax, and infrastructure developments if passed.”
She said about eight hundred thousand dollars in infrastructure work is a relatively easy way to provide jobs to the local residents.
The annexation laws in Missouri state you must develop areas of land in phases.
The first phase is two hundred and forty-three acres, which will be able to be developed over the next ten years.
Voters must approve the first phase by way of vote next week.
In order for passage of the annexation, it will require a two-thirds majority vote by residents in the city and people in the proposed annex area.
City officials said the idea of raising taxes to pay for the infrastructure improvements has been the main reason some voters have lined up against it.
