Helias to reorganize school administration

Planned changes at Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City will come a little sooner after an announcement from Dean of Students Stan Ochsner .

Ochsnerhas decided to retire at the end of this school year, and Sister Barbara Niest will pursue other avenues of ministry with the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Niest is currently the school’s coordinator of curriculum and instruction.

Father Stephen Jones, president of Helias, announced Monday that he will not hire another dean of students when Ochsnerleaves, but rather divide functions of the position to other administrators.

Sister Jean Dietrich will step into the role of vice principal for registration and facilities.

Dietrich will continue to oversee registration and scheduling, plus many of her previous duties in addition to several of the duties currently held by Ochsner.

Doug Light will no longer be the activities director in order to take on new roles as a teacher and supervisor as well as take on some of Ochsner’s duties.

Father Jones said these changes are part of a long-term plan to help the school remain on a solid financial footing while remaining effective and working to increase enrollment.

A search will begin immediately to hire a new principal and activities director.
