List of MU campus inspections now covers 1,200 buildings

On Tuesday officials confirmed 1,200 University of Missouri buildings statewide will be inspected.

The inspections come after a fatal walkway collapse over the weekend at MU-owned apartments in Columbia.

Late Tuesday afternoon, MU announced the local firm THH engineering will inspect all campus buildings.

Dorms and student housing are the focus of this inspection process, but all buildings will be covered.

THH officials told ABC 17 News they are getting help from consultants in Kansas City and St. Louis because there are so many facilities to inspect.

As of Tuesday inspectors do not know how long this process will take or how much this is going to cost the university.

Inspectors say they are looking for immediate safety issues related to structures. The examples they used Tuesday are any deep cracks in concrete or serious deterioration.

“Structural integrity but more specifically immediate concerns. We are identifying structural issues that they need to address. Our focus is primarily to determine what needs to be done now if there is anything,” said John Smith with THHinc Consulting engineers.

While the University moves forward with inspections, leaders still have not answered questions about past inspections. ABC 17 News has been trying to find out the last time University Village was inspected before last weekend.

After three days, ABC 17 News still does not have those answers.
