Miller Co. prosecutor sends cease and desist notice to Insane Clown Posse
The Miller County Prosecutor has sent a cease and desist to the rap-metal group Insane Clown Posse.
Last week, the group announced on their website they were looking for a new venue after Crybaby Campgrounds in Kaiser got out of their contract with the promoters of the group.
The rap-metal group is known for troubled gatherings with drug overdoses, fights, arrests and even deaths.
Prosecutor Matt Howard in Miller County sent the cease and desist letter to the Detroit-based Psychopathic Records, Inc. last week.
In the letter, Howard said Missouri has a law that requires any outdoor music festivals that draw more than 5,000 people and will last more than 12 hours to fill out a comprehensive application and go through a licensing process by a county governing body.
He said his office wanted them to be aware of the proper proceedings in the event they are looking for another location to host the event in Missouri.
“We want to bring to their attention they failed to comply with the law here,” Howard told ABC 17 News.
In that same letter, Howard references the “forgotten, but catastrophic” 1974 Ozark Music Festival at the Sedalia fairgrounds. That event drew more than 300,000 people and left behind an expensive cleanup.
Howard said that event is what led to the state’s regulatory licensing.
The Insane Clown Posse event was scheduled to take place Aug. 6-9 at Crybaby Campgrounds in Kaiser.
Because the group was selling tickets and promoting the event without obtaining the proper license, Howard said they were in violation of a Missouri statute.
“They need to comply with the law anytime they’re going to be here in Missouri doing something like this,” he said.
Howard said the group has not acknowledged receiving the letter yet. It’s also not known if the group is looking for another Missouri location to hold their event.
