Ten bridges to be repaired in Mid-Missouri

Thousands of Missourians travel over bridges every day that are in need of repairs or replacement.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will repair 10 of those bridges in Mid-Missouri this year.

Eight bridges will be repaired in Boone County, one in Howard, and one in Callaway County.

MoDOT Project Manager Mike Dusenberg said it we can either repair the bridges now or have to replace them later.

“If we don’t repair them now, the bridges will get worse and will have to completely replace them which will cost more time and money,” he said.

The money isn’t MODOT’s biggest concern — it’s the traffic.

“These bridges are all in high volume areas and in need of some significant repairs,” Dusenberg said.

Each of the bridges in Boone County sees up to 30,000 cars on them per day. The bridges in Howard and Callaway Counties each get 10,000 vehicles.

All the bridges except the bridge on Route WW over Hominy Creek will remain open during construction.

Construction is set to finish in November, costing nearly $3 million for all 10 bridges.

One bridge — on Route 41 over the Lamine River in Cooper County — will be completely replaced.

That will include widening it from 22 to 32 feet.

Construction will start in late summer and will cost $2.2 million.
