Daycare owner’s trial delayed in Cole County
The trial of a Cole County daycare owner accused of endangering the welfare of a child has been delayed with no rescheduled date yet.
Shelley Richter, 43, was originally convicted of the charge in March 2013, but a judge threw out that verdict a couple months later and ordered a new trial.
Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Richardson told ABC 17 News the new jury trial was delayed last week, but did not say why.
Richter was originally accused of and charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child for an incident in 2010.
Then-7 month old Lane Schaefer’s parents said Richter shook the boy, leaving him with brain damage and blindness. Richter said she tripped while holding him.
In 2013, a jury found her not guilty of child abuse but believed she had endangered Schaefer’s welfare by not immediately calling 911 after the incident.
A plea/trial setting hearing for Richter’s case had been continued on February 19, according to Missouri Case.net.
