Second suspect arrested in JC home invasion

Jefferson City police say the second suspect in a home invasion in late January is now in custody.

The Miller Co. Sheriff’s department contacted police stating they had Bruce D. Maylee in custody.

Police have been looking for Maylee for his involvement in a home invasion at 411 Hickory on January 27.

Cole Co. prosecutors have charged Maylee.

Police caught the first suspect, Robert Stegeman, 50, the following day. He’s charged with first-degree assault and burglary and felonious restraint.

According to Jefferson City police, a woman showed up at a neighbor’s home on Hickory Street around 10 p.m. asking for help. Officers said she was bleeding from her mouth and had duct tape around her head, zip ties on her hands, and she was carrying a knife.

The woman told officers she had been held hostage at 411 Hickory Street. In that home, officers found a man who also had duct tape around his head and zip ties on his hands. He was bleeding profusely from the head, according to police.

Police say two male suspects forced their way into the home and tied up the victims. The male victim told investigators one suspect struck him in the head several times with a small handgun.

The victim also told police he knew the second suspect, who helped duct-taped the victims before leaving.

Officers found narcotics paraphernalia in the home, but the motive for the home invasion is not unclear.

The female victim was taken to the Jefferson City Police Department for questioning while the male victim was taken to Capitol Region Medical Center for treatment. He suffered a broken jaw, ribs and a concussion.
