Mid-Missouri road crews busy during storm

Roads crews in mid-Missouri were busy trying to keep up with snowfall Tuesday afternoon.

The city of Columbia reached two inches of snow before noon, meaning no parking on snow routes kicked into effect across town. Any cars parked on those streets would towed at the owners expense Tuesday so city streets crews could plow those roads.

Columbia Public Works reported first and second priority roads were “generally passable” by noon Tuesday. As snowfall was expected to get heavier through the afternoon, crews expected roads to become worse closer to evening rush hour.

In Jefferson City, roads were mostly clear by noon Tuesday and snowfall had slowed. Cole County Public Works reported crews were being allowed to take a lunch and rest break before snowfall continued because roads were in such good shape, especially in the southern part of the county.

A “no travel advisory” remained in effect for the state Tuesday afternoon, with MoDOT and local authorities urging drivers to stay off the roads unless necessary Tuesday evening.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team continued forecasting five to eight inches of snow for most of mid-Missouri throughout the day Tuesday, with snowfall lessening later in the evening.
