Capital Region Medical Center honored by the state

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is honoring Capital Region Medical Center for its support of breastfeeding mothers.

Capital Region is the first hospital in the state to receive the department’s “Show Me Five” award.

The award is for hospitals who provide a nurturing environment for breastfeeding mothers.

Capital Region officials say they are happy their hard work is paying off.

“I think it’s the obligation for the hospital to give moms and babies the best start. By promoting breastfeeding, it helps us do that,” said Cathy Lewis Capital Region Medical Center Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

“We have gone through five steps to implement evidence based practices and maternity care to promote our mothers who choose to breastfeed,” said hospital lactation specialist Angie Stonner.

Capital Region is a 100-bed facility that offers prenatal, maternity and home health services.
