Jefferson City names new city administrator

Jefferson City council voted unanimously to appoint Steve Crowell as the new city administrator Tuesday night.

Crowell will take over the position in March and comes from St. Mary’s, GA., where he is the current city manager. He has 30 years experience in the field.

Crowell says he hopes to get citizens involved in key city decisions.

“I know that the city has been very customer oriented. I know that we can continue that and reach out to citizens and get them engaged in tough decisions that the city is going to be facing,” said Crowell.

Nathan Nickolaus, the former city administrator, was fired in September. Mayor Eric Struemph said then the city needed to take a different direction.

Jefferson City Attorney Drew Hilpert has been serving temporarily.

The Jefferson City City Council voted unanimously to hire Steve Crowell as city administrator.
