Lincoln University nursing school could move to St. Mary’s Health Center

ABC 17 News has learned that the Lincoln University nursing school could be moving to the current location of St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City.

Gov. Jay Nixon is scheduled to make an announcement at Lincoln University Monday morning. His office said he will discuss his plans for his fiscal year 2015 budget.

Scott Holste, a Nixon spokesperson, said the budget will include a strategic investment to enhance and expand learning opportunities for students.

But ABC 17 News learned that the announcement could also include plans for Lincoln University’s nursing school to move into the current building of St. Mary’s Health Center after the hospital moves to its new location off Highway 179.

St. Mary’s Hospital plans to open its new $200 million facility sometime this year, but no specific date has been set.

That also means there isn’t a date set for nursing students to move in.

ABC 17 News reached out to officials at Lincoln University and St. Mary’s to confirm this information, but officials have not return calls for comment.

Sen. Mike Kehoe, who represents the Jefferson City area, will be in attendance at the event.

The announcement will be in Memorial Hall, 818 Chestnut Street, at 10:30 a.m.
