CPS makes two votes on Mill Creek Elementary proposal

The Columbia Board of Education continues to discuss the proposal to address an overcrowding issue at Mill Creek Elementary.

A new elementary school will open in 2016, but the board decided to change the boundaries temporarily and move some students to neighboring schools to alleviate the problem.

The board voted unanimously Monday night to provide transportation for fifth graders who are exempt from the move.

Another issue was whether those fifth grader’s siblings would be allowed to stay at Mill Creek. The board voted not to let those siblings stay. Some board members said they believe it would show favoritism if they allowed those students to stay, but not others.
