Community steps up to help Callaway County fire victim’s family
A Callaway County community is rallying for a family who lost nearly everything Thursday night in a house fire.
Robert Walker, a husband and father died in the house fire in Millersburg. Investigators said he got his kids out of the home and then went back in to try to stop the flames from spreading. Five children will now spend Christmas without their father.
ABC 17 News talked with Walker’s family on Sunday. One family member said she is extremely grateful for the community’s outpouring of generosity. She told ABC 17 News many members of the community have dropped off clothing and shoes for Walker’s children, as well as boxes of food.
The New Bloomfield school is taking donations for the Walker family. The family said they still need household goods for a new home; things like furniture, pots and pans, silverware or any other type of home appliance.
But even more than that, the family said it is still uncertain whether Robert Walker had a life insurance policy. Because of that, they don’t know how they’re going to pay for a funeral yet.
If anyone wishes to donate, they can stop by the New Bloomfield school or donate to the family directly.
