Columbia police investigate armed robbery at Aspen Heights
Police are investigating an armed robbery at the Aspen Heights complex.
Around 6:21 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the student housing complex for a reported robbery involving a gun.
According to police, the suspect approached a woman who was walking her dog outside of her home. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and told her to go inside, where he demanded money from her and another woman.
The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Neither victim was injured.
Police called for a K-9 unit to the area to help track the suspect, but the search was unsuccessful.
For about 45 minutes, officers set up a perimeter around the complex and blocked both entrances to the neighborhood. That blockade has since been lifted.
During the lockdown, residents told ABC 17 News they were missing finals because they could not leave the complex.
The suspect is described as a black man, late teens to early 20s, approximately 5’10” tall, with a medium complexion, gap in his front teeth, and short braided hair. He was last seen wearing a black puffy coat, gray sweatshirt, dark pants and white shoes.
