Hallsville man arrested for shooting at dog, kids

A Hallsville man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly shooting at a dog and two children.

According to a news release, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 11300 block of Hecht Road for reports of a disturbance with a gun.

Deputies discovered that two children had been chasing a dog that got off its lease.

Law enforcement say Brian Gravatt, 39, fired a gun at the dog, the children chasing it and then their mother, who confronted him.

Deputies say Gravatt has a previous felony conviction, making it illegal to possess a firearm. They also say the rifle had been stolen.

As of Sunday night, Gravatt is being held in the Boone County Jail with a bond to be set. He could face several charges, including armed criminal action, assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property.
