Slick roads cause several accidents

Numerous traffic accidents have been reported across Mid-Missouri due to slick travel conditions.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports an accident closed the right lane of I-70 westbound near the Missouri River Bridge around noon.

Columbia Public Works had a seven-member crew out on city roads Sunday morning, working to clear first and second priority roads.

In Pulaski County, an accident involving “multiple tractor trailers” shut down both directions of I-44 near mile marker 149.

Affiliate KSPR-TV reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol is responding to approximately 15 crashes in a four-mile stretch of I-44.

The Cooper County Emergency Management Agency says crews responded to a car in a ditch. Highway 87 is through the county is slick, according to officials.

Some roads are expected to re-freeze overnight. Emergency management crews are warning drivers to be cautious.

“It comes down to the drivers’ actions and first of all, they need to just slow down,” said Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District. “Increase that following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.”
