MU Tigers face harsh conditions on road to Georgia
As the Missouri Tigers head to Georgia’s capital city, poor weather is forcing some of them into hours of delay.
The team is gearing up to face the Auburn University Tigers on Saturday for the Southeastern Conference championship title.
A caravan of buses carrying Marching Mizzou and the Golden Girls left Columbia just after 5 a.m. Friday. The coach of the Golden Girls, Susan Fry, told ABC 17 News that the 300 students en route to Atlanta are about 5 hours behind schedule. The main reason: snow and ice.
“Getting to Paducah [Kentucky] was kind of a challenge. It got pretty heavy with nothing but ice underneath,” said Fry.
She also told ABC 17 News, rather than trying to make up the time, the seven buses carrying the two groups are choosing to stay safe and go “exactly the speed limit.” They expect to arrive close to 11 p.m.
Since it was flying, the Mizzou football team had no such trouble. The team’s plane departed from Columbia Regional Airport around 1 p.m. on Friday and touched down in Georgia an hour later.
