Local stores busy for Small Business Saturday

Black Friday is often not thought of as a day for the small stores along Broadway in Columbia.

However, the majority of stores downtown did take part in Black Friday sales.

“Here it’s a little bit slower pace. We get rushes. At one moment we’ll have a lot of people and the next minute it will be slower,” said Tiffany Hockett who works at Click on Broadway.

Store owners told ABC 17 News that they would like to see more people in the future on this day.

“We always want more people to come downtown,” said Lisa Klenke, manager of Calhoun’s.

“I would love to see people shopping downtown just because the downtown has a different feel. It’s not like those huge department stores,” said Hockett.

The stores are expecting a turnout for tomorrow’s, Small Business Saturday. It is a national day of awareness for shoppers to support their local small businesses.

“I think they did that a little to battle Black Friday and you know all the different days like Super Sunday and what not,” said Dave Danuser, owner of Bingham’s.

Dave Danuser is referring to the list of days stemming from Black Friday, like Brown Thursday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday.

While Black Friday shopping ends Friday night, it is just beginning for small businesses in Columbia.
