Hermann high school volleyball coaches work together for 34 years

The stakes are getting higher in girls’ district volleyball this weekend.

Hermann High School hopes to take home yet another championshiptitle. Coaches Linda Lampkin and Allen Spekhals have been coaching the Hermann High School girls’ volleyball team together for 34 years.

“Being a player under Coach Lampkin is awesome; I myself have seen what a better player I’ve become and how I’ve grown as a person, even outside of volleyball,” said Jaime Gleeson, Hermann volleyball team captain.

This group of girls is looking to make their footprints in a long line of success.

“I’d say we have a pretty strong legacy. I said we have been to the Final Four 21 times, we’ve won 11 state championships in those 21 trips, and that’s happened in the last 34 years, so it’s been pretty strong,” Lampkin said.

Even dating back to when Coach Lampkin played at Hermann herself.

“My high school, coach has some pretty strong teams; they went several years without losing conference games or anything like that, so it goesway, way back to the 60s actually,” she said.

The way to finding victory at the end of the season has remained the same.

“I’m probably repeating something you might get from Coach Lampkin; all we want to see on the court is what we see in practice,” Speckhals said.

“You don’t have to be better than you are at practice; you just need to do the things you need to do every day,” said Lampkin.

That is what the Bearcats hope to do to bring home their 12th state title.

Hermann needs to beat Fair Grove tomorrow to return to the state semifinals.
