Jefferson City police urge caution on Halloween
Halloween is a busy day for the Jefferson City Police Department with extra officers on duty and working long into the night.
Because the streets will be full of children, police are asking anyone driving during trick-or-treating times to keep an extra eye out.
“We caution drivers to be very cautious when driving through those neighborhoods tonight and watch their speed and pay extra attention to kids that may be crossing the road,” said Capt. Doug Shoemaker.
Police recommend that parents equip their children with reflective clothing and flashlights once it is dark out.
They are also advising residents to not open the door for anyone that they do not feel comfortable with.
“Sometimes, more often than not, there are older kids out that really don’t fall into the trick or treat ages. If people aren’t comfortable opening their doors for certain people, then just don’t open the door,” said Shoemaker.
