Jury recommends death penalty for convicted killer David Hosier
A jury in Jefferson City has recommended the death penalty for a convicted killer.
On Wednesday, David Hosier, 58, was convicted of killing Angela Gilpin. Hosier is also suspected of killing her husband Rodney in their Jefferson City apartment in 2009.
A jury heard arguments Thursday and Friday morning during the sentencing phase of the trial. Around 11 a.m., the jury began to deliberate whether Hosier should be sentenced to life in prison without parole or receive the death penalty.
Just after 2 p.m., the jury recommended to the court that Hosier receive the death penalty. A sentencing date has not been set yet.
ABC 17’s Brad Johnson reported the prosecutor in the case was instructing the jury to choose the death penalty. Prosecutors say Hosier has been proven to be a violent person in the past.
Prosecutors said even after an eight-year stint in prison for beating a girlfriend unconscious, Hosier still committed murder.
However, Hosier’s attorney said his client is only violent toward women. His attorney told the jury to punish Hosier, but do not give him the death penalty.
