Jefferson City Public Schools talk overcrowding

Tuesday night, the Jefferson City Public Schools invited about 40 community leaders to be on a facilities and planning committee.

The group was given a demographics study and enrollment projections packet.

District officials are trying to figure out where to go next after a tax and levy measure was handily defeated by voters in the last election.

Schools in the capital city are faced with overcrowding issues.

The high school is built to handle 1,665 students, but currently has 1,800 attending.

Four elementary schools are facing overcrowding issues as well.

The public school system is seeing about 100 additional students enroll from private schools. That’s a trend officials have seen since 2007.

ACI Boland Architects is the company that is acting as a facilitator for the district.

On Nov. 17, there will be a town hall meeting open to the public. The time and location have not been announced.
