Man killed in Moniteau County crash

A California man was killed in a Thursday morning crash on Highway 87.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Jacob Ponder, 41, of California, was driving on the road around 6:40 a.m. when he crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 36-year-old Travis Butts.

Troopers say Butts tried to swerve to avoid the truck, but was hit, causing his car to go off the right side of the road.

Butt was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ponder was not injured.
