Two arrested after car chase in Callaway County

Two people have been arrested after leading area law enforcement on a chase Monday afternoon.

Around 1:20 p.m., a Fulton police officer attempted to pull over a stolen SUV on County Road 409. Its occupants, Hazel R. Benton and Deric W. Farley, failed to stop and led authorities on a chase.

The chase continued from Fulton to Hams Prairie before the car collided with a tree. Benton and Farley fled from the scene before being captured in a nearby field.

Benton, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested for first-degree tampering with a vehicle, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while revoked. She also had two warrants from Cole and Maries counties.

Farley was arrested for second-degree tampering with a vehicle and resisting arrest.

Fulton police, Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol all participated in the pursuit.
