Accused downtown Columbia shooter appears in court

The man accused of a shooting this summer in downtown Columbia appeared in court Wednesday.

Eric Cravens is charged with armed criminal action and three counts of first-degree assault for the June 15 shooting near Broadway and Ninth Street.

The prosecution asked the judge for the case to be continued because more still needs to be investigated.

Cravens’ defense lawyer said she had witnesses ready for Wednesday’s hearing and asked the judge to dismiss all of the charges due to a lack of prosecution.

Cravens will be back in court within the next 30 days for an update on the case.
