Man arrested after crashing car, fleeing from authorities in Cole County

Mid-Missouri authorities arrested a Jefferson City man after he crashed his car and fled from law enforcement.

According to Cole County Sheriff Greg White, deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a car crash near Highway 179 and Hilsenbeck Road around 3:20 p.m. Monday.

Emergency responders at the scene told authorities that the person involved in the accident, Jasper Richmond, ran into the woods when they arrived at the crash.

Sheriff White says the car involved in the crash was also wanted for leaving the scene of an accident in Cooper County.

A search by Cole County deputies, Highway Patrol troopers and K-9 units was unsuccessful.

White says around 4 a.m. Tuesday, deputies received a report of a person trying to flag down cars and eventually got into a car headed toward Jefferson City.

Deputies and Jefferson City police were able to stop the vehicle and arrested Richmond near Edgewood Drive and Frog Hollow Road.

Richmond is being held in the Cole County Jail on two felony warrants out of Camden County for distribution of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of an accident. he could face additional charges of leaving the scene of the accident for Monday’s incident.
