Shooter kills cow from car on private property in Cole County, speeds away

An investigation is underway after someone pulled up to a Cole County ranch and opened fire at a group of cows.

Now, the Cole County Sheriff is offering a reward for information leading the arrest of the person responsible for the killing.

Tammy Goldammer raises cattle and works with cowdogs on the property located in Lohman, west of Jefferson City. She takes care of her mother’s land where some of the cows are kept.

On Friday evening, the peaceful property was interrupted by gunshots.

“He pulled right up along the fence, rolled down the passenger side window and pointed a gun out the window and started shooting,” Goldammer told ABC 17 News.

The driver then sped out of the driveway and traveled northbound on Route U.

Goldammer said her neighbor noticed a white, late-model 1990s TrailBlazer with a rusted area on the passenger’s side rocker panel parked in Tammy’s driveway around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The car left, then came back 20 minutes later and fired two shots into a group of grazing cows.

The cow that was gunned down died 30 days before she was due to give birth. Her calf didn’t survive either.

Goldammer said she is still searching for another cow who may have been hit by the second bullet.

She believes it might be injured in the wooded area or the ravines in the back of the property.

Goldammer said her vet removed the bullet from the dead cow and turned it over to the Cole County Sheriff’s Department to help them identify the caliber of the gun and hopefully catch the triggerman responsible.

“It’s heartbreaking and it’s sad, you know, to know someone would just kill her,” Goldammer said.

The loss of cows is estimated at more than $4,500.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Greg White announced he is offering a $250 reward for information that would to the arrest of the person responsible.
