Columbia man sentenced to 7 years in prison for April shooting and car chase

A Columbia man pleaded guilty in court Monday in connection with his involvement in an April 30 shooting, chase and standoff in Boone County.

Sheldon Grayson, 20, was sentenced to seven years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and four years in prison for resisting arrest. Judge Gary Oxenhandler ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

Around 8 p.m. on April 30, dispatchers first received a report of shots being fired from out of a car along north Route J near Richland School Road. The initial report said a large-frame semi-automatic gun was used.

Deputies began to chase the vehicle, a Ford Taurus, on Route J, but the suspects ditched or crashed the car in the 1300 block of Roby Farm Road. The suspects then fled on foot.

Law enforcement took Marland M. Lane and Jamil H. Edwards into custody at the scene. Grayson and a fourth suspect, Autumn D. Kee, were able to get away.

Kee was later arrested in Texarkana, Texas in May and Grayson was arrested in Arkansas in June.
