Callaway Energy Center reopens three weeks after fire
More than three weeks after a fire shut down the Ameren Missouri Callaway Energy Center, the facility has reopened.
Ameren officials say the plant is back in service as of Monday.
On July 26, a small fire on the main electrical power cables leaving the plant caused the company to close the facility. Ameren says inspections on the cables and transformers showed that the problem was limited to small area and major equipment replacements were not necessary.
Since the closure last month, other Ameren power plants have been providing energy to the utility company’s 1.2 million customers. The Callaway Energy generates approximately 20 percent of the company’s power.
