40 arrested in multi-agency crime sweep in Columbia

The Columbia Police Department announced Monday that 40 people were arrested during a three-day crime sweep.

Between August 1 and 3, police conducted more than 200 traffic stops, 60 check subjects and arrested dozens of people. Authorities say they used call data and intelligence-gathering efforts as part of the operation.

The 40 arrests included traffic offenses, drug offenses and numerous arrests for outstanding warrants.

During the sweep, officers arrested Domionte S. Cheatum, 20, of Columbia for the murder of Anthony Unger on June 23 in the Conley Road shopping center parking lot.

U.S. Marshals arrested Chad L. Thomas, 23, of Columbia in Birmingham, Ala. for first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and second-degree property damage.

Several others were arrested for various charges including distribution of heroin or cocaine; unlawful use of a weapon; and methamphetamine distribution in a Kingdom City, Mo. hotel.

Columbia police worked in cooperation with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, the University of Missouri Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service. About 40 officers and four K-9 units participated in the sweep.
