Columbia man sentenced for armed home invasion, shooting

A Boone County judge Monday sentenced a Columbia man to prison for an armed home invasion and shooting last year, after he changed his plea to guilty.

Judge Christine Carpenter sentenced Cedric Barnum to 13 years, running concurrently with a previous sentence, Monday afternoon. ABC 17’s Dana Clemens reports Barnum cried in the courtroom as the sentence was read.

Barnum pleaded guilty to first degree assault, armed criminal action and second degree robbery. A second count of armed criminal action was dropped.

He had been accused of a shots fired incident in March 2012 at Switzler and Bryant Streets and then for an armed home invasion in April on Mexico Gravel Road.

Barnum, 29, is already serving seven years in prison for a 2012 Memorial Day weekend shooting outside the Oakland Park pool. At that time, his mother told ABC 17 News Barnum had been targeted by Columbia’s Squad Up gang for months.

Barnum is currently incarcerated at Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron, Mo.
