Casey’s stores stop selling energy shots to minors
A local convenience store chain will not sell energy shot products to anyone under the age of 18.
Ankeny, IA-based Casey’s General Stores tells KOLR-TV the Board of Directors made the decision based on science and its conscience.
“It just doesn’t feel right to sell to kids, so we don’t do it,” Finance Vice President Brian Johnson told the station. “”Below the age of 18 sometimes they don’t make the best decisions, it’s not the fact that one shot has more caffeine then a cup of coffee, it’s the fact they could buy of them and make a very concentrated drink.”
Casey’s has several locations across mid-Missouri, where ABC 17 News found the products Sunday, including the popular 5-Hour Energy. The company said the products are not banned, just now require identification.
Missouri has no laws forbidding sales of energy drinks to minors.
