Cops take teens in for questioning for McKee Street Park murder

Columbia police searched two homes Wednesday night, looking for evidence connected to the murder of a 17-year-old teenager at McKee Street Park nearly two weeks ago. Relatives say two people were taken in for questioning.

As of Thursday night, both of the teens have been released.

Police confirmed their SWAT team served a search warrant near Ash and Bryant streets around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Officer Latisha Stroer declined to comment further and would only say the search warrant was “in relation to an active homicide investigation.”

A man at the home near Ash and Bryant streets said his 16-year-old nephew was taken in for questioning this evening.

Only ABC 17 News was there when police served another search warrant at a second home in northeast Columbia on Boyd Lane.

Mercedes Moore told ABC 17 News exclusively that police took her 15-year-old son in for questioning in connection with the McKee Street Park incident.

Moore says her son was questioned until 1:30 a.m. and that he voluntarily took a DNA test. She said police told her the DNA test could take up to four-to-six months before results came back.

In the meantime, she said detectives may have to ask her son additional questions.

Thursday night, Marlon Jordan, the uncle of the other teen taken in for questioning, told ABC 17 News his nephew had also submitted a DNA test and was released.

Just before midnight on July 14, Tre’Veon Marshall was shot and killed in McKee Street Park. Officers never released a suspect description in that homicide.
