Tanker truck overturns on Highway 54

A tanker truck carrying fuel overturned on Highway 54 Wednesday afternoon, causing major traffic delays and some fuel to leak.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says around 2 p.m., the tanker truck had a mechanical failure, causing it to travel off the roadway on Highway 54 near Route 52 in Miller County.

The truck rolled down an embankment and had a minor fuel leak.

The driver of the truck, 41-year-old Michael C. Cotten, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Capital Region Hospital.

Crews from the Highway Patrol, Miller County Sheriff’s Department, Miller County Fire Department, Miller County EMS, Eldon Fire Department, Moreau Fire Department and Cole County HAZMAT all responded to the accident.
