Jefferson City man sentenced in drug robbery killing

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to 13 years behind Wednesday for killing a Columbia man.

In June, a jury found Brandon Chase guilty of murder, armed criminal action and robbery.

The charges stem from the 2012 shooting death of Keith Mosely during a drug deal robbery.

Chase claims he wanted nothing to do with the situation last April. Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson says 34-year-old Keith Mosely drove from Columbia to Jefferson City to help sell marijuana.

But instead of selling the drugs, Chase devised a plan for him and two others to rob Mosely, according to the prosecution.

Richardson acknowledged Chase did not have a gun on him, but he says he should be found guilty because he was a part of the robbery that led to the death of Mosely.

Chase’s lawyer says the prosecution’s story did not actually happen. The defense says Chase was informed by the two other men about the plan to rob Mosely, but claims Chase did not want to partake in it.

This is the second time Chase has stood trial, after a judge declared a mistrial because of a hung jury in March.
