Eleven injured in crash on Interstate 70 near Highway 63

Nearly a dozen people were taken to the hospital after a multiple vehicle crash Sunday evening on Interstate 70.

According to a Columbia police report, an SUV with ten people inside lost control on the wet road and hit a guardrail. A second car then hit the SUV.

Columbia fire crews told ABC 17 News Sunday night that two people were thrown from the car when it went off the road and hit the median cables.

Both drivers and all passengers, including the two thrown from the SUV, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Two in the SUV, Mylo Pastor-Castaneda and passenger Gizelle Pastor-Castaneda, both from Garden Grove, Calif., were ejected from the vehicle through the rear glass window.

All involved in the accident have since been treated and released.

The driver of the SUV was cited for failing to secure one of the children in a safety seat.

Traffic backed up for about one hour with westbound Interstate 70 closed at the Highway 63 connector as crews worked to treat victims and investigate the crash. One lane of the eastbound side of the interstate was also closed for that time, causing backups for miles in both directions.
